| First time users are strongly recommended to read this "Start" page prior to proceeding to the UDP Document tab. |
| Welcome! These pages contain the UDP as amended following Direction from the Secretary of State to extend the life of Saved Policies beyond 27 September 2007. The policies that have been extended beyond this date will be used together with the London Plan as the statutory development plan for the borough from the 28 September 2007 and will be used to assess planning applications until the adoption of the borough's Local Development Framework (LDF). LDF development plan documents are programmed for adoption in 2009 and 2010. The new documents are being prepared in accordance with the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Please use the following link to check our progress in preparing the LDF: |
| The UDP was further amended by way of a court order dated 5 December 2008 that quashed the Direction issued by the Secretary of State on 27 September 2007 to extend Policy HO5. Accordingly, Policy HO5 has expired and no longer forms part of the statutory UDP. |

| The source UDP document spans over 400 pages in Paper form. We have presented the UDP here in a logical structure allowing simple navigation around the document. The text is the same as the source, but is presented differently because of the need to make it electronically and user friendly. The navigable text shows not only the policies that have been extended, but it also contains the expired policies with an accompanying message in red text identifying that the policy is no longer part of the statutory development plan. The printable version of the document shows the expired policies in Strikethrough. |
| The document contains tables, diagrams, and map images. There is also a Proposals Map. However, because this map is "live" and runs from LBHF geographic information system, the base map is regularly updated. UDP designations will not change, but users of this document should confirm any designation shown on this map by referring to the printed 2003 map. If confirmation is required in any way or if in the case of doubt, please contact a planning policy officer in Environmental Policy and Projects (udp@lbhf.gov.uk). |
To gain most benefit from the UDP we recommend you view the information in the order: 1. This Start page. 2. Click on the UDP Document tab and read the Introduction first. The introduction outlines the scope, format and usage of the UDP. 3. Utilise the Help tab for detailed help navigating through the UDP and maps. 4. Utilise the Index tab for a detailed UDP index reference source. |
The Plan is in three parts. Part One of the UDP contains general land-use policies and provides the context and framework for the more detailed policies for the whole of the Borough. Part Two contains the justification for the Part One policies and development control policies. Part Three contains the annex and the glossary. |
| All the Part Two policies have justifications that can be accessed by clicking the 'Justification' tab at the top right of the policy page. (Remember: only for part Two) |
 |
| The justification can be divided into 3, 4 or 5 sections. You can either click on the section name or use the arrows to follow through the complete justification. |
The Part Two policies, proposals and standards are shown in bold type-face while the reasoned justification of the policies is in normal type-face. The policy numbers in the UDP may not always run consecutively.
To navigate within the UDP, click on the part you are interested in on the left hand column. (ie. Introduction, Part One, Part Two or Part Three) In the example shown, Part Two is selected and expanded, and the Sustainable Development Chapter (in Part Two) is selected.
Clicking on the part, will expand the contents for you to further select. To expand another part, click on that heading (eg 'Part 3'). This will expand and also the earlier opened part will close. | |
| It is highly recommended you now read the Introduction in the UDP first. This is important. The introduction outlines the scope, format and usage of the UDP. |
| Where appropriate, you have the facility to view the map showing the affected policy area via the 'Show Map' link. A new page will appear giving you dynamic mapping facilities into LBHF Geographic Information System. |
| For help operating the Mapping Interface, select help within the map page. |
